Barrow blotter

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents:

911 HANG-UP: An employee at Publix on Loganville Highway mistakenly called 911 on July 5.

One of the speed dials Publix has is 911, and someone accidentally press the button when trying to reach another Publix, the store manager told a Barrow County deputy. The deputy saw all was well.

THEFT: A Statham man left his home July 3 and returned two days later to find his four-wheeler stolen, the man reported.

The man had left his four-wheeler behind his Arnold Road barn attached to a trailer and out of gas, but when he came back the four-wheeler was gone, he told a Barrow County deputy. A gas can that didn’t belong to the man was sitting on the trailer.

TRAFFIC COMPLAINT: A Winder man was walking to his home on Mears Street from a neighbor’s house when a neighboring woman swerved at him with her car, the man told a Barrow County deputy.

It wasn’t the first time the woman swerved at the man, he said. He didn’t know her name.

BAD CHECK: A Winder woman’s roommate moved into her home on North Broad Street July 4 and gave her a bad check for the rent, the woman told a Barrow County deputy.

They had no written agreement but a verbal one that the roommate could stay with her.

A Magistrate Court employee told the deputy that the verbal agreement was as valid as a written lease. The deputy advised the woman to hire an attorney or have the roommate evicted.

THEFT: An employee at Triple E Pawn on Carl Bethlehem Road reported stolen items were pawned in his shop July 5.

The items were returned to their rightful owners, and the pawn shop lost $296.25 after paying the person who gave the shop the items.

911 HANG-UP: A Winder woman on Oxford Ridge accidentally called 911 July 5 while trying to call 411. A Barrow County deputy found everything at the home was okay.

911 HANG-UP: A Barrow County deputy went to a home on Treadwell Road July 5 and checked a Bethlehem man after a 911 hang-up.

The deputy found everything was fine and explained how the phone system might have called 911 accidentally because of the bad weather.

VANDALISM: A Winder man’s Than Skinner Road mailbox was knocked over twice in two days, the man reported.

The man found his mailbox on the ground July 5 at 2 p.m. and put the post back into the ground, he told a Barrow County deputy. He then discovered his mailbox knocked over again the next day at 2 p.m.

This time, the mailbox was smashed as if someone stomped on it.

The man couldn’t think of any possible suspects.

DECEASED DOG: A Winder man’s 18-month-old dog was dead in his yard when he returned to his Lackey Road home from work July 6, the man told a Barrow County deputy.

The dog was alive and healthy when he left his home at 6:30 a.m., he said.

The deputy saw no injuries on the dog and left after speaking with animal control.

911 HANG-UP: A Winder woman’s 3-year-old grandson accidentally called 911 while playing with the phone July 6. A Barrow County deputy found everything at the Pleasant Hill Church home was okay.

CUT FENCE: An Auburn man’s chain-link fence on Tanglewood Road was cut sometime between July 4 and 6, the man told a Barrow County deputy.

There used to be several teenagers who played basketball there, but a neighbor told them not to, the man said. The man had feared some sort of retaliation.

He didn’t have any information on the teenagers.

ENTERING AUTO: A Winder woman’s car was broken into July 7 on Plantation Road, the woman told a Barrow County deputy.
